OPTICIAN’S NIGHTMARE is composed of spectacle lenses which are more than a century old. Many are bifocals, some still retain the delicate screws that once secured their nose bridges. Painstakingly assembled over a three-dimensional form, the lenses project outward in a three-inch convex dome creating a dynamic surface that shifts with the viewerʼs perspective.

An antique mirror behind the lenses creates a web-like barrel effect, refracting and reflecting imagery in multiple facets. Borders of Art Moderne chandelier pendants and triangular crystal prisms enhance the compositionʼs geometric rhythm and luminous quality, while a 11⁄2-inch wooden frame completes this exploration of perception, light, and vision.
